Pune, 21st June 2023: Uruli Devachi and Phursungi were recently announced as separate municipal councils by the Maharashtra state government. However, the official notification for the formation of these councils is yet to be issued. In the meantime, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has taken the initiative to propose three town planning schemes for these areas.

The general body of PMC has given its final approval for the town planning schemes, which cover a total area of 650 hectares. Among these schemes, two are proposed for Phursungi, while one is designated for Uruli Devachi. The aim of these schemes is to facilitate the development of ring roads in the respective areas.

City engineer Prashant Waghmare stated, “PMC had previously drafted the town planning schemes for the proposed ring roads. In 2019, we published the draft TP scheme and invited suggestions and objections from the public.”

A total of 191 objections were received, prompting necessary changes to be made to the plans. The revised town planning scheme proposals have now been forwarded to the urban development department for final approval.

Despite the ongoing process of establishing the new municipal councils, the state government has ensured that the land designated for the garbage depot will remain under the jurisdiction of PMC. This decision aims to address waste management concerns in the region.
