Pune, 13th April 2023: Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) transferred 132 junior engineers who were eligible for transfer yesterday, following financial allegations of political vassals lobbying officials for years.

The General Administration Department prepared a list prioritizing those who had served for the longest time in one place for transfers to the post of Junior Engineers, with proposals to transfer 109 engineers in the architectural branch, 5 in the mechanical branch, and 18 in the electrical branch.

Employees and officers are transferred every three years in Pune Municipal Corporation, with Class I officers being transferred under the authority of the Commissioner and those below being transferred under the authority of Additional Commissioner. However, in 2017, junior engineers in the corporation were transferred, and three years later, when transfers were expected to occur, they did not happen due to political and official pressure.

The city president of Congress, Arvind Shinde, made allegations of taking lakhs of rupees for transfer work in the municipal corporation, causing a stir. The General Administration Department then took action and transferred the junior engineers who were eligible for transfer.

During the transfer process, 132 junior engineers were assembled in the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Auditorium of Pune Municipal Corporation. The transfer process gave engineers the option to work in departments that they have not worked in before. However, junior engineers favored by officials were reportedly given less important accounts to work in, leading to chatters in the municipal corporation.

Deputy Commissioner of the General Administration Department, Sachin Ithape, stated that after six years, 132 junior engineers eligible for transfer had been transferred. In the next phase, clerks and senior clerks will also be transferred. This move aims to ensure fairness in the transfer process and prevent political vassals from lobbying officials for years, resulting in a lack of fairness and transparency in the transfer process.
