Pimpri Chinchwad, 13th April 2023: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Sub-Regional Transport Office (RTO) has exceeded its revenue target for the financial year 2022-23, recording a total income of Rs 874.7 crore from vehicle and license fees. The RTO’s revenue for the year exceeded the target by Rs 78.7 crore, according to Deputy Regional Transport Officer Atul Ade.

The increasing registration of vehicles, particularly two-wheelers, has contributed to the RTO’s growing revenue. In the last four years, 321,308 two-wheelers were registered, making them the preferred choice of citizens. Of the total 23,92,521 registered vehicles in the Pimpri-Chinchwad city, 3,21,308 were two-wheelers, and 1,32,458 were four-wheelers.

Ade explained that the Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO generates income from various charges, including vehicle license fees, preference number fees, and fines. The revenue trend has been steadily increasing, with the RTO recording Rs 585.68 crore in 2019-20, Rs 439.58 crore in 2020-21, and Rs 621.12 crore in 2021-22. However, this is the first time that the RTO has surpassed the Rs 800 crore mark in revenue.

The growing population of the city has resulted in a surge in the number of registered vehicles in recent years. In 2019-20, there were 1,52,286 registered vehicles, which increased to 1,62,641 in 2022-23. The RTO’s income has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with a decrease in revenue observed in 2020-21 due to the pandemic’s impact.

As the demand for eco-friendly modes of transportation continues to grow, the Pimpri-Chinchwad RTO aims to increase the use of e-rickshaws by 50% by 2026. The RTO is taking steps to encourage people to use electric vehicles by providing subsidies, charging infrastructure, and tax exemptions.
