Pune-Nagar Road Traffic Crisis: MLA Pathare Calls for Pedestrian Infrastructure and Subway Repairs

Viman Nagar, 11th June 2025: Rising traffic congestion, inadequate pedestrian infrastructure, poor road design, and lack of public amenities along the Pune-Nagar Road have led to growing frustration among local residents. In response, MLA Bapu Pathare of the Wadgaonsheri constituency has submitted a formal memorandum to the Pune Municipal Corporation, Pune City Traffic Branch, and Traffic Control Department, urging immediate and practical interventions.
Though a signal-free corridor has been implemented in areas like Yerwada, Shastrinagar, Kalyaninagar, Ramwadi, Viman Nagar, Tata Garden, Kharadi Bypass, Janak Baba Dargah, Yuvaan IT Park, and Kharadi Octroi Naka—helping smoothen vehicular flow—pedestrian safety and local accessibility remain major concerns, according to Pathare.
Key Recommendations by MLA Pathare:
Realign the disoriented road divider after the removal of BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) lanes and place it back in the center.
Install zebra crossings, footpaths, and pedestrian signals at crucial points.
Erect reflective boards at divider starting points for improved visibility.
Put up directional and guidance signage for smoother traffic navigation.
Immediately repair and maintain subways at Viman Nagar and Chandannagar, including improved lighting and sanitation.
Implement smart traffic signal systems to enhance flow and control.
Independent Submission on Subways:
In a separate representation, Pathare raised concerns over the deplorable condition of pedestrian underpasses in Viman Nagar and Chandannagar. These subways reportedly suffer from poor lighting, lack of cleanliness, and general neglect, making them unsafe for women, students, and senior citizens. He called for urgent upgrades to ensure public safety.
“I have consistently worked to improve the traffic scenario in Wadgaonsheri. Solving congestion is not enough—we must ensure safety and accessibility as well. I am confident that the authorities will consider my recommendations seriously. Transportation is an essential part of every citizen’s life, and we must not compromise on it,” said MLA Bapu Pathare in his official statement.
The demand highlights a broader need for holistic urban transport solutions in fast-growing corridors like Pune-Nagar Road, where infrastructure is yet to catch up with population and vehicle growth.
