Pimpri Chinchwad, 11th June 2025: Amid mounting civic complaints from residents of Hinjawadi, Maan, Marunji, and adjoining areas, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Dr. Yogesh Mhase has directed all concerned administrative agencies to prioritize works that will bring immediate relief to citizens.

He issued the directive during a review meeting held at the PMRDA’s Akurdi office on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by officers from multiple departments, public representatives, local sarpanchs, and stakeholders from the Hinjawadi Industrial Association, Pune IT City Metro Rail Ltd., MIDC, MPCB, MSEDCL, PCMC, PWD, and other civic bodies.

Rainwater Accumulation and Traffic Issues Take Center Stage
Dr. Mhase pointed out that stagnant rainwater due to blocked natural drains and streams in Hinjawadi, Maan, Marunji, and surrounding areas has become a serious problem for both residents and motorists. He instructed the agencies to take immediate steps to clean drains, remove debris, and restore proper water flow.

Ongoing metro and infrastructure works are also contributing to traffic congestion in the region. Dr. Mhase stressed that all ongoing projects must be completed within their stipulated timelines, and agencies should work in close coordination to minimize disruptions.

“All agencies must act collectively and complete essential works that offer visible relief to citizens by June 15,” Dr. Mhase stated.

Action Against Unauthorized Constructions and Pollution
The Commissioner also warned of strict action against those blocking natural drains or encroaching on water channels. He directed officials to survey constructions around drains and submit reports on whether they are legal or unauthorized.

Furthermore, concerns were raised about companies discharging polluted water into public drains, causing environmental and health hazards.

Dr. Mhase instructed agencies to investigate such cases. If found in violation of rules or lacking proper permits, water and electricity connections to these companies will be disconnected.
