Pimple Saudagar, 20th February 2023: The amount of plastic waste thrown into nature is a matter of concern for over a decade. In the said plastic waste, used water bottles, and bottles of cold drinks are maximizing the number. It is not only dangerous to the environment but also to human beings. Taking all these things into consideration, Swati Gupta, a German and Sanskrit language tuition teacher came up with the innovative idea to reuse the said plastic waste.

Gupta (48), a resident of Aureate society, Kunjir Vasti, Pimple Saudagar, started collecting these plastic bottles and turning them in a plant holder. She started hanging these now plant holders on the staircase as a piece of decoration.

While talking to PunekarNews.in, Gupta stated, “I am a nature lover, and seeing all this non-biodegradable waste just piling up in open spaces always broke my ethics and morals. I started collecting these bottles to reuse them. I started with my floor first as an experiment. After this, other residents requested me to do the same for their floor, and that is how my journey started.”

Gupta said that to date she hanged 160 bottles on seven floors of her wing and it is her dream to cover all eight wings of the society. “We have asked for permission from the chairman of our society once he stresses, I will start the process of beautification.”

Gupta has planted plants of 8-10 different varieties. She said that as a maintenance one needs to just refill the pot with water. “My husband encouraged me a lot. He suggested I use food colors to make the plant holders look more attractive. We also added plastic tags to support the plant holders,” she added.
