Narhe, 14th November 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the eight people who died in the devastating accident at Navale Bridge on Thursday evening. Calling the incident “very unfortunate and painful,” Fadnavis expressed condolences and said the state government stands with the grieving families.

“A total of eight people have died in the accident at Navale Bridge. We share the grief of their families. A financial assistance of Rs 5 lakhs will be given to the heirs of those killed,” the Chief Minister said in a message posted on X.

8 Dead, 15 Injured; Police Share Helpline Numbers

The Pune City Police confirmed that eight people — five men, two women and a three-year-old girl — were killed in the crash. Fifteen others are undergoing treatment at Navale Hospital, Pulse Hospital and Silver Birch Hospital.

“For information about the injured or the deceased, citizens may contact the following phone numbers,” said Sandeep Bhajibhakre, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch.

Brake Failure Suspected; Massive Fire Engulfs Vehicles

According to preliminary reports, the driver of a container truck travelling towards Mumbai lost control near Selfie Point around 5.40 pm, allegedly due to brake failure. The vehicle rammed into a queue of cars and trucks, triggering a chain-reaction crash involving nearly a dozen vehicles.

Moments later, an explosion ignited a massive fire, engulfing the stretch. Eyewitnesses said the flames spread rapidly. “The fire was so intense that no one could approach the vehicles. The fire brigade arrived quickly, but the passengers were already trapped,” a local resident said.

FIR Filed for Culpable Homicide

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam told Punekar News that an FIR for culpable homicide has been registered at Sinhagad Road Police Station.

The case — based on a complaint by PSI Madhukar Tupsaundar — names truck driver Rustam Ridar Khan, cleaner Mushtaq Hanif Khan and truck owner Tahir Nasir Khan (45), all residents of Rajasthan.

Police said further investigation is underway to determine mechanical failure, negligence and compliance with transport safety norms.
