Narhe, 14th November 2025: “I have seen many accident victims in my career, but today’s scene shook me to the core,” said ambulance driver Sachin More, his voice heavy after helping retrieve bodies from the horrific Navale Bridge accident on Thursday evening. More, who has handled several crash emergencies over the years, said the scale of the tragedy and the condition of the victims were “heartbreaking.”

Eight people — including two women, a child and four men — were killed when a speeding goods truck ploughed into 8–10 vehicles around 5.45 pm. One car was dragged for several metres before slamming into another truck. The impact crushed the vehicle, and moments later, an explosion sparked a fire.

Fire brigade teams rushed two tenders to the spot and battled the flames before beginning the grim rescue operation. Using cutters, spreaders and other equipment, personnel pulled out bodies trapped inside the mangled vehicles.

Around 40 firefighters, led by Chief Fire Officer Devendra Potphode and officers Prabhakar Umratkar and Santosh Bhilare, worked for hours to bring the situation under control.

Even seasoned responders struggled to process the devastation. “The number of bodies and the severity of the damage… it is something I will not forget,” More said.

The tragedy has once again raised concerns about the persistent dangers along the Navale Bridge stretch, where repeated crashes over the years have claimed numerous lives.
