Pune: New Roads in Punawale, Wakad, and Ravet to Enhance PCMC’s Road Network
Pimpri Chinchwad, 12th December 2024: To enhance the road infrastructure in merged areas, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has begun the construction of nine roads across Punawale, Wakad, Kiwale, Ravet, and Tathawade. Approved before the Model Code of Conduct for Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections was enforced, these roads are expected to improve the road network by more than 75%.
The new roads aim to resolve issues of narrow and deteriorating roads, which have contributed to traffic congestion and accidents. Many IT professionals residing in these areas, known for their proximity to Hinjawadi Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park (IT Park), have expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the roads.
Residents in Punawale are optimistic that the new roads will address problems like waterlogging, especially following the recent monsoon. One resident noted, “The PCMC’s proposed plan covers almost 80% of the road network in my area.”
There is also a call for proper speed breakers to reduce accidents, and for the municipal corporation to ensure that stormwater and drainage lines are connected to residential areas.
Currently, the road network in these regions faces multiple issues, including insufficient width, potholes, and the absence of essential services like water, stormwater, or drainage systems. However, the new roads are set to incorporate these crucial facilities.
Though these merged areas have faced challenges in road development since their incorporation into PCMC, they continue to be among the fastest-growing regions in Pimpri Chinchwad.
