Pune News: Criminal Who Robbed Woman at Knife Point Killed in Police Encounter
Shirur, 30th August 2025: A 32-year-old criminal from Satara, Lakhan Popat Bhosale, was killed in a police encounter on the Pune–Ahilyanagar Highway near Malthan Phata in Shikrapur (Tal. Shirur, Dist. Pune) on Saturday evening. The incident occurred when Bhosale attacked a police constable with a knife while resisting arrest.
According to information provided by Satara and Shikrapur police, a team from Satara City Police had received a tip-off that Bhosale, who was wanted in a serious crime, had arrived in Shikrapur with an accomplice. Acting on this input, Assistant Police Inspector Shamrao Kale, Police Constable Sujit Bhosale, and other team members reached Malthan Phata around 6:30 pm.
The team managed to apprehend Bhosale. However, during the arrest, he attacked Constable Sujit Bhosale with a knife. In self-defense, police opened fire with a service revolver, leaving the accused critically injured. He was rushed to Shikrapur Rural Hospital by Shikrapur and Satara police but was declared dead on arrival.
Shirur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prashant Dhole and Shikrapur Police Inspector Dipartan Gaikwad visited the spot and supervised the situation. Heavy police presence was deployed to regulate traffic and prevent law and order issues following the incident.
Constable Sujit Bhosale, who sustained knife injuries, is reported to be in a stable condition.
Police officials said that Lakhan Bhosale, a resident of Vadgaon Pusawale in Satara district, had a serious criminal record. He had been released on bail just two days ago in connection with a major case registered at Satara City Police Station. Soon after his release, he allegedly snatched jewelry from a woman in Satara city and fled. Following this offense, Satara Police immediately initiated steps to arrest him, which led to Saturday’s encounter in Shikrapur.
The process of registering a case in connection with the incident is underway, Shikrapur Police confirmed.
