Pune News: Sinhagad Fort Sees Tourist Clash Amid Allegations Of Misconduct With Women
Pune, 17th August 2026: Sinhagad Fort witnessed chaos on August 15 as a large number of tourists gathered at the popular destination to mark Independence Day. A fight reportedly broke out between two groups, with videos showing people kicking and punching each other and throwing stones. Several people were reportedly injured.
The incident took place amid heavy rainfall and a significant tourist rush. The exact reason behind the clash has not yet been established, while police are looking into the matter.
At the same time, some women visitors alleged that a few young men deliberately touched women inappropriately while taking advantage of the heavy crowd.
The allegations have raised concerns over the safety of women visiting Sinhagad, particularly during weekends and public holidays when the fort sees a sharp increase in visitors. However, as of late Sunday, no formal complaint regarding the alleged misconduct had reportedly been received by the Haveli police. The allegations therefore remain claims by visitors and will require verification through an official complaint and investigation.
The incidents have also brought crowd management at Sinhagad Fort into focus. With thousands of tourists visiting the fort during peak periods, managing entry, movement and traffic can become challenging.
Tourists have raised concerns over whether the existing police and security presence is sufficient to handle such large crowds. In an overcrowded setting, minor disputes can also quickly escalate into larger confrontations.
The latest incidents have renewed questions over the need for stronger safety arrangements at Sinhagad, especially during holidays and the monsoon season. Measures such as better crowd control, planned entry systems, adequate police deployment, surveillance and designated assistance points could help authorities manage peak tourist rush more effectively.
With Sinhagad continuing to attract large crowds, the recent clash and allegations of inappropriate behaviour have once again put tourist safety and crowd management at the fort under scrutiny.
