Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Pune, 20th November 2025: Union Minister for Road Transport Nitin Gadkari has directed the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to implement urgent and prioritized measures to curb the rising number of accidents near Navale Bridge on the Mumbai-Bengaluru National Highway. This was informed by Pune MP and Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol.
The order comes in the wake of a recent accident near Navale Bridge that claimed the lives of eight people. On Wednesday night in New Delhi, Mohol met Gadkari to discuss the accident in detail and the measures needed to prevent such incidents in the future.
Mohol briefed Gadkari on the steps already taken by the central and state governments to reduce the number of accident-prone “black spots” near Navale Bridge. Despite these measures, the recent accident highlighted the need for more effective and immediate actions. Mohol also requested that reports on measures finalized in meetings with the Pune Municipal Corporation, PMRDA, district administration, police, and NHAI be submitted to the central government so that prompt instructions could be issued at the national level.
Key Points Discussed in the Meeting:
Concrete discussions on permanent measures to prevent accidents

Vehicle load inspections at Khed-Shivapur toll plaza
Mechanical vehicle inspections conducted through RTO at toll plazas
