Pune: Nigerian National Dies After Assault Following Dispute in Pisoli; Two Held

Pisoli, 12th January 2026: A 40-year-old Nigerian national died during treatment after allegedly being assaulted following a dispute at a residence in the Pisoli area, under the jurisdiction of Kalepadal Police Station.

According to police, the incident occurred at the residence of a Nigerian woman, identified as Nkenia Patricia Mbiga, at Limras Heights Society near Dharamavat Petrol Pump, Pisoli. The victim, identified as Yemeka Christian, a resident of Fursungi and originally from Nigeria, had reportedly gone to the house along with other Nigerian nationals for a meal.

Police said a dispute broke out between Yemeka Christian and the other men present — identified as Nayemeka Madubuchi Onia, Kinsley Obi, Oje Ojugwa and Obi — allegedly over a personal relationship. The argument escalated, following which the accused allegedly assaulted Christian, hitting him on the head, hands and legs, causing serious injuries.

Christian was rushed to Ruby Hall Clinic, Wanowrie, by his friend Gift Sivonus Utah, 39, Vice President of the Nigerian Students’ Union in Pune and a resident of Undri. However, Christian succumbed to his injuries during treatment, police said.

Kalepadal Police have initiated the process of registering a case in connection with the incident. Two accused, Nayemeka Madubuchi Onia and Obi, have been taken into custody, while further investigation is underway to ascertain the sequence of events and the role of the remaining suspects.

Police said further action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
