Pune, 18th April 2026: Any construction, redevelopment or excavation work within 20 metres of an elevated or underground Pune Metro corridor will now require prior permission or a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Metro authorities, officials said.

The directive comes days after an unauthorised borewell drilling activity damaged the roof of an underground Metro tunnel in Shukrawar Peth, prompting Pune Metro to warn property owners and developers of legal action and recovery of repair costs for any work undertaken near Metro infrastructure without approval.

The warning follows a recent incident in which borewell drilling on a private plot in Kasba Peth punctured the tunnel roof of the underground Metro section. A police complaint has been lodged against the property owner and developer in connection with the incident.

Officials said several activities require prior clearance, including construction, demolition, excavation, plinth work, geotechnical surveys, borewell drilling and well construction around Metro line.

Permission is also mandatory for laying utility lines such as electricity, telecom and gas pipelines, as well as civic infrastructure works including water pipelines, drainage lines and stormwater systems.

Those found violating the norms may face legal proceedings and those responsible would also be liable to compensate Pune Metro for structural damage or financial loss caused to public infrastructure.

Citizens and developers have been asked to apply for approvals through Pune Metro’s planning department before commencing any such work.

Pune Metro has been designated as a planning authority for areas within 500 metres on either side of its route, enabling it to grant permissions for certain construction activities and levy applicable development charges.
