Pune: ‘No Entry for Muslims’ Poster at Sinhagad Fort Removed by Forest Dept; Police Hunt for Those Behind It
Pune, 15th July 2026: A poster put up by unidentified persons at Sinhagad Fort on the outskirts of Pune, declaring that Muslims were not allowed to enter the historic fort, triggered concern on Tuesday. The poster, pasted near the vehicle parking area close to the fort’s entrance, claimed that “This fort belongs to Hindus. Muslims are not permitted to enter,” police said.
The forest department, which manages the fort, removed the poster immediately after it came to its notice. No formal complaint has been lodged so far, but police have launched a search to identify those responsible.
According to forest department officials, the printed Marathi poster was pasted on an old iron signboard by unidentified persons in the early hours of Tuesday. Besides the message barring Muslims from entering the fort, the poster also carried the words “By Order” at the bottom.
Officials said the phrase appeared to have been deliberately added by miscreants to create the impression that the message was an official government directive. “As soon as the matter came to our notice, we removed the poster,” a forest department official said.
Police said they are verifying CCTV footage from the area and are trying to trace the individuals who put up the poster. No case has been registered yet as no complaint has been received.
