Chinchwad, 5th November 2023: The Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police have initiated a unique campaign, ‘No Horn Day,’ to address the issue of noise pollution caused by constant honking. The campaign is set to be observed every Monday, and traffic police officers will visit schools, colleges, IT companies, and MIDC areas to raise awareness and encourage drivers to refrain from honking on this designated day.

In the bustling urban life, traffic congestion often leads to frustration among drivers, resulting in frequent honking to navigate through jams. This constant noise pollution not only affects the well-being of the drivers but also disturbs the peace of the surrounding citizens. Cases of ear and mental disorders have been linked to this ongoing problem. Various regional transport offices, social organizations, and transport associations have made efforts to create public awareness, but drivers have largely ignored the pleas.

To combat this issue, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Traffic Police are urging motorists to participate in ‘No Horn Day’ every Monday. The campaign aims to educate the public about the adverse effects of unnecessary honking and the consequences of increasing noise pollution. In the past 15 days, the police have taken action against 6,178 vehicles and imposed fines totalling Rs 61.71 lakh. Violations, including heavy vehicles on inner city roads during restricted hours, have been strictly addressed.

Additionally, the traffic police will intensify their actions against various traffic rule violations, such as riding triple seats on two-wheelers, wrong-side driving, and loud silencers. Traffic departments throughout the city have received orders to enhance both awareness and enforcement efforts.

DCP (Traffic) Bappu Bangar said, “After leaving the house, the driver blows the horn at least five times every kilometre until reaching the desired destination. Due to this, the noise pollution in the city is increasing, and the mental health of the drivers is also deteriorating. This is a request to the drivers, and it is believed that if you don’t sound the horn at all for a day, the habit of honking will gradually decrease.”
