Pune, 15th September 2022: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will now take a decision on giving a 40% discount on property tax. A meeting will be held with the Chief Minister regarding this matter, and until then, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) should not collect any additional tax from the citizens. Instructions were given in the meeting held in Mumbai on Wednesday.

Pune citizens and social organisations are demanding that the 40% discount given in property tax should be re-implemented on behalf of the PMC, and the amount of difference should not be recovered from the citizens. The MLA of Kothrud Assembly Constituency and State Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil held a meeting in Mumbai on Wednesday to give relief to Pune residents after discussing this. Ganesh Bidkar, the former House Leader of the Municipal Corporation, had requested Patil to hold such a meeting and take a decision. This meeting was held against that background. Ganesh Bidkar, BJP City Spokesperson Sandeep Khardekar, Urban Development Department Deputy Secretary Priyanka Chapwale, Property Tax Department Head Ajit Deshmukh, Legal Advisor Nisha Chavan, and others were present on this occasion.

The state government has already informed the municipality that the 40% discount given to property holders in the city is being cancelled, and the municipality should not give this discount in the future. Accordingly, Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has cancelled the 40% discount. Also, as this discount has been cancelled for the last three years, instructions have been given to recover the difference amount from the citizens. Due to this, the burden of the increased tax will fall on the citizens. There is dissatisfaction among the citizens as the municipal administration has also sent an SMS regarding immediate payment of this difference amount.

Minister Chandrakant Patil held this meeting on Wednesday to find a solution. After listening to all the officials, it was decided to hold a meeting with the Chief Minister of the state, Eknath Shinde, and find a solution to this issue. Clear instructions have been given at this time that until no decision is taken after a meeting with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendraji Fadnavis, the Municipal Corporation should not insist on paying this amount.
