Pune Municipal Corporation Issues Guidelines To Prevent Outbreak Of Lumpy Disease

Pune, 15th September 2022: In the wake of the increasing spread of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in the Maharashtra state, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has also taken precautions and started preventive measures. Transportation of infected or suspected animals and the fairs and exhibitions of such animals have been banned.

Municipal Commissioner Vikram Kumar has issued orders in this regard. In the state, 25 cattle and buffalo of Gojati species have died due to lumpy skin disease in 59 talukas of 17 districts till 7th September. The disease is spreading rapidly. Therefore, the municipality has initiated measures to prevent the entry of animals suspected of having lumpy skin disease or being infected. To prevent the spread of scheduled disease in the uninfected area, strict enforcement and action are being taken at the border check post, and necessary instructions have been given to the cattle rearers, cow protection organisations, and milk traders within the municipal limits.

All cattle and buffalo of the bovine species are prohibited from being transported outside the herds in the controlled area. Infected live or dead cattle should not be taken out of the controlled area. Manure, hay, and other materials in contact with infected animals, carcasses of such animals, skins or any products made from animals or such animals should not be taken out of the controlled area.

 

 

 

The sale of cattle and buffalo of bovine species has also been banned. No event shall be conducted by grouping or congregating animals of the bovine species in animal fairs, exhibitions and controlled areas. Infected animals shall be prohibited from being brought into markets, fairs, exhibitions or other gatherings of animals or any public place within the controlled area. The municipal circular said that all these rules should be strictly enforced.
