Pune: Non-Veg Waste Discarded In Mutha River By Vendors And Restaurants, MLA Siddharth Shirole Raises Issues In State Assembly

Pune 26th July 2023: Member of Legislative Assembly from Pune’s Shivajinagar constituency Siddharth Shirole has claimed that the non-veg waste in his constituency is being discarded into the Mutha river by the vendors and restaurants leading to foul odors and health concerns for local residents. He further demanded the government to instruct the Pune Municipal Corporation to promptly implement a well-thought-out plan for the systematic disposal of unusable non-veg waste in Pune city.
“In the Shivajinagar constituency, various vendors selling eggs, chicken, mutton, fish, and other products operate extensively in markets and restaurants across the Aundh and Bopodi areas. Unfortunately, some shopkeepers and restaurant staff thoughtlessly discard non-veg waste into the Mula river, leading to foul odors and health concerns for local residents. The problem is escalating, as numerous shops and establishments begin their operations early in the morning” Shirole said.
“This irresponsible practice contributes significantly to river pollution, exacerbating the existing challenges faced by #Pune city. Despite the efforts of PMC to maintain cleanliness, there has been no concrete action taken to address the proper disposal of non-veg waste. The estimated daily accumulation of this waste in Pune city is around 10 tons, which poses serious health risks to its citizens” he added.
Shirole demanded that the Pune Municipal Corporation must establish a waste disposal plant to solve this problem and the state government should allocate necessary funds to for it. Minister Uday Samant while responding to this issue assured in the state assembly that the municipal corporation will be directed to take concrete steps towards establishing a waste disposal plant.
