Pune: Notorious Criminal Shot Dead, His Bodyguard Injured In Firing; Police Suspect Gang Rivalry Over Sand Mining

Uruli Kanchan, 22nd October 2021: A notorious criminal was shot dead while his bodyguard sustained injuries in a firing near Sonai Hotel at Uruli Kanchan, about 30 km from Pune, on the Solapur highway.

Officials from Pune city police suspect that a rivalry related to illegal sand mining could be behind the daylight exchange of firing incident.

Loni Kalbhor police station officials said that Santosh Jagtap, a resident of Rahu, was killed while his bodyguard was injured in this firing around 2.30 pm. Around four to five assailants allegedly fired at them. Police have recovered three empty cartridges from the spot.

Senior officials including DCP (Zone 5) Namrata Patil and Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Mokashi reached the spot immediately after getting information alongwith Crime Branch team. Further investigation is going on.
