Pune: One Year, 100 Meters – Keshav Nagar’s Road Project Drags On

Keshav Nagar, 11th January 2025: Frustrated by prolonged delays and deteriorating conditions, residents of Keshav Nagar, Mundhwa, have called for immediate action from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) regarding an incomplete road construction project in their area. Despite repeated complaints and follow-ups, the 900-meter road from Mantra to Silversands in Sharad Nagar remains largely unfinished, causing significant inconvenience and safety hazards to the community.
The project, undertaken by Parshuram Constructions at the beginning of 2024, has seen only 50–100 meters of usable road completed over the past year. The lack of progress has left residents, including families, children, and elderly individuals, to navigate a hazardous, single-lane stretch riddled with potholes, poor lighting, and stray animals.
Key Issues Highlighted by Residents
Residents of seven to eight housing societies in the area have outlined several critical issues arising from the incomplete road:
Health Hazards: Dust and poor road conditions are affecting the health of residents.
Road Safety: The treacherous stretch has led to 4–5 major accidents involving vehicle skidding.
Inconvenience: Families, including elderly residents and school-going children, face daily challenges commuting on the unsafe road.
Delays and Stoppages: Work stoppages caused by material shortages and delayed inspections from the PMC’s Engineering Inspection & Land (EIL) Department have exacerbated the delays.
Despite numerous complaints and assurances from the concerned departments, there has been no significant progress.
In a letter addressed to the PMC Commissioner, the residents have requested immediate intervention to ensure the completion of the road within the next two months. They have also warned of potential protests at the PMC office if no action is taken.
“This delay is not just about inconvenience; it’s about safety and quality of life. We’ve been patient for over a year, but enough is enough,” said Harshal Pandit, a resident of the area.
As the residents await a formal response from the PMC, the pressure mounts for the civic body to address the grievances and expedite the completion of the road. The residents hope that their collective voice will result in concrete action and relief from the persistent challenges they face daily.
