Pune: Opium Cultivation Busted By Loni Kalbhor Police, 2 Farmers Arrested

Pune, 2nd March 2023: The Loni Kalbhor Police conducted a raid and destroyed an illegal opium farm in the Holkarwadi area. During the operation, the police confiscated 1374 opium plants (weighing 116 kg) worth Rs 11,60,000 and arrested two farmers involved in the illegal cultivation.

The arrested farmers were identified as Rajaram Damodar Holkar (50) of Holkarwadi and Balu Kisan Katke (50) of Patilnagar in Holkarwadi, Haveli taluka.

While patrolling under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Dattatray Chavan, the police team learned that opium was being cultivated in a wheat field near Chimani Pond in the stream going from Autadewadi to Holkarwadi in the Holkarwadi area.

Based on this information, a team of Loni Kalbhor police arrived at Holkarwadi on Wednesday afternoon and destroyed the illegal farming. They seized 1,374 opium trees weighing 116 kg worth Rs. 11,60,000 from survey numbers 180 and 183 of Holkarwadi. The police took action against opium cultivation and arrested the two farm owners under the NDPS Act. The investigation into the crime is being conducted by Police Sub-Inspector Amit Gore.
