Pune: Opium Farming Busted In Indapur, Opium Weighing 7087 Kg Worth Rs 1.4 Crore

Indapur, 4th March 2023: Six farmers from Malewadi in Palasdev, Indapur taluka of Pune district, have been caught growing opium weighing 7,087 kg, worth Rs 1.4 crore.

The police raided the area after receiving an anonymous online complaint and found that the farmers had planted opium in their maize crop for commercial purposes without a license.

A case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. However, there are reports that some farmers have destroyed their opium crops by rotating the rotavator on the field at night.
