Pune: Otur Resident Injured in Leopard Attack, Transferred to Narayangaon Hospital

Junnar, 11th December 2024: A leopard attacked and injured a man in Otur, Junnar taluka of Pune, on Wednesday around 5 AM, as reported by Junnar Forest Range Officer Lahu Thokal. The injured individual, identified as Gurunath Kisan Wagh, aged 27 and a resident of Otur, was attacked while defecating in the open. The leopard’s sudden attack left Wagh injured. Otur Sarpanch Prashant Dumbare promptly informed the Forest Department about the incident.

The injured man was admitted to the Otur Primary Health Centre, where he was treated by Dr. Ashwini Dongare and Dr. Vaishnavi Thikekar under the guidance of Medical Officer Dr. Shrihari Sarokte. According to the doctors, Wagh sustained a leopard bite on his right shoulder and a scratch on his left hand caused by the animal’s claw. He was later transferred to Narayangaon Rural Hospital by the Forest Department for further treatment.

In response, the Forest Department has set up a cage at the site of the incident. They also raised public awareness about the presence of the leopard and shared guidelines to avoid human-leopard conflicts. Citizens were educated on protective measures to ensure their safety.
