Pune, 11th December 2024: Construction in Pune must adhere to the rules set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). However, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received complaints that many construction professionals are disregarding these regulations. This non-compliance has led to increased air pollution, primarily due to construction activities not following proper guidelines.

In response, the PMC has issued a warning to construction professionals, stating that punitive action will be taken against those who fail to comply with the rules. The Building Permission Department has instructed professionals and their associations to adhere to the regulations, setting an eight-day deadline for compliance. City Engineer Prashant Waghmare emphasized that violations beyond this period will result in punitive measures.

The ongoing construction work has contributed to rising pollution levels in the city, with an increase in fine dust particles harmful to public health.

In this context, the PMC has sent an email to all construction professionals, architects, construction material suppliers, and road haulage workers in Pune, urging them to follow the guidelines set by the CPCB. An eight-day deadline has been given for compliance, after which punitive action will be taken against those who violate the rules.

Given the rise in hazardous dust particles due to construction activities, the PMC administration implemented the CPCB’s regulations for construction professionals last year. These regulations include instructions to erect 25-foot-high signs on construction site boundary walls, cover sites with green cloth, spray water to control dust, prevent dust from blowing, and cover roads when transporting materials. The Building Permission Department has taken this step following complaints received by the PMC regarding ongoing construction work that was not adhering to these guidelines.
