Pune: Over 17 Lakh Women Traveled By ST Buses Under Mahila Sanman Yojana In Month

Pune, 18th April 2023: The Shinde-Fadnavis government has announced a 50% discount on ticket fares for women traveling by ST under the Mahila Sanman Yojana in the state budget. The scheme was implemented on 17th March, and the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has reported that 17.14 lakh women in Pune district have traveled by ST buses at half the ticket price in one month.
According to the MSRTC, 1.16 lakh women traveled from Shivajinagar stand, 1.07 lakh from Swargate, 1.55 lakh from Bhor, 2.89 lakh from Narayangaon, 2.28 lakh from Rajgurunagar, 75,000 from Talegaon, 1.18 lakh from Shirur, 2.28 lakh from Baramati, 1.71 lakh from Indapur, 90,000 from Saswad, 63,000 from Daund, and 51,000 from Pimpri-Chinchwad and 82,000 from MIDC. In total, 17.14 lakh women passengers have benefited from this scheme. Ramakant Gaikwad, Divisional Controller of ST Corporation, informed that the ST Corporation has received an income of Rs 6.42 crore.
The Mahila Sanman Yojana is a commendable initiative that aims to provide financial relief to women who rely on public transport. The scheme has been widely appreciated and has helped many women travel with ease and affordability. The ST Corporation’s efforts in implementing this scheme are also laudable.
