Pune, 26th August 2025: On the first day of the land consent drive for the proposed Purandar International Airport, 760 farmers submitted letters agreeing to part with their land, officials said. The campaign, which began at the Pune Collectorate and the Saswad office, is part of the state government’s effort to acquire land from private owners for the project.

Pune Collector Jitendra Dudi said, “So far, we have received consent for 1,070 acres out of the total 3,000 acres earmarked for acquisition from private landowners. The response on day one has been encouraging.”

The state government had recently scaled down the project’s land requirement from 7,000 acres (2,832 hectares) to 3,000 acres (1,285 hectares).

Despite the positive response, opposition persists in some villages. PS Memane of the Vimantal Virodhak Samiti said, “While a few investors may have agreed to part with their land, many farmers remain firmly opposed. We have put up placards across villages declaring that farmers will not give up their land.”

The land-consent drive is scheduled to continue for 21 days. Families whose homes fall within the project area are promised a 250-square-metre residential plot in Aerocity, in addition to financial compensation for their land.

Authorities said the drive aims to balance the need for infrastructure development with adequate rehabilitation and compensation for affected families.
