Pune, 26th February 2026: Maharashtra has received 92,156 online applications so far for admissions under the 25 per cent reserved quota of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act (RTE).

The RTE Act provides free admission and education in private unaided schools to children from economically weaker and disadvantaged sections. The state government reimburses tuition fees to the respective schools, though schools have consistently raised concerns over delays in receiving these reimbursements.

This year, eligible children will be allotted schools located within a one-kilometre radius of their residence. Some parents have expressed dissatisfaction with the distance restriction.
Education authorities have advised parents to carefully check their complete residential address and Google map location while filling out the online form. They have been urged not to submit the application until all details are verified and confirmed to be correct.

After submitting the form, parents must keep a record of the application number, the mobile number mentioned in the form, and a copy of the application safely until the lottery process is completed.

Statewide, 8,651 schools have registered for RTE admissions, offering 1,12,772 seats. In comparison, 92,156 applications have been received so far. In Pune district alone, 905 schools have registered, making 17,509 seats available, while 17,671 applications have been filed.

The last date to submit applications is March 10.
