Pune, 9th March 2023: The district administration of Pune has recovered over Rs 40 lakh from 80 individuals who received double benefits under the Covid-19 financial assistance scheme. The scheme announced by the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government provides financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to families of Covid-19 victims.

A total of 313 families received double benefits due to technical issues such as non-completion of KYC or non-linking of Aadhaar to bank accounts. The district administration has recovered half of the excess benefits and is working on recovering the remaining amount.

As of now, out of 32,590 applications received, 25,455 families have received the amount of Rs 50,000 directly in their bank accounts. The remaining applications were rejected due to non-fulfilment of documents or no proof of death due to Covid-19. The district administration has set up a special room in the collectorate office for the scheme and invites online applications for the same.

The district administration is taking strict measures to avoid such discrepancies in the future and has emphasized the importance of proper KYC and Aadhaar linkages to prevent such issues. The Covid-19 financial assistance scheme continues to operate and the district administration encourages eligible families to apply for the same.
