Pune: Sassoon General Hospital Sets Up “Every Wednesday Breast Clinic” For Early Detection Of Breast Cancer

Pune, 8th March 2023: The Department of Medical Education and Drugs, Government of Maharashtra, has launched the “Breast Cancer: Awareness and Treatment Campaign” in the state to promote awareness and early diagnosis of breast cancer.
As part of the campaign, an “Every Wednesday Breast Clinic” has been set up at the Sassoon General Hospital in Pune. The clinic will operate every Wednesday from 12:00 PM to 02:00 PM at the Breast Clinic Outpatient Department at Sassoon General Hospital.
The inauguration of the clinic was conducted by Dr Sanjeev Thakur, Dean of BJ Government Medical College, Pune, and was attended by Medical Superintendent Dr Bharti Daswani, Breast Cancer Specialist and Nodal Officer Dr Mayuri Kamble, Dr Anant Beedkar, Dr Sachin Balwantkar, and Dr Kiran Jadhav, among others. The program also featured a presentation on breast cancer through street plays and posters and a workshop organized by Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai.
The campaign will also include the deployment of a mobile unit by Sassoon Hospital to provide public awareness, training, check-up, and referral services. Awareness campaigns will be conducted in various colleges, public institutions, offices, and public places. Furthermore, a cancer diagnosis camp will be organized to facilitate the early detection of breast cancer, and health workers will be trained in breast cancer screening by a group of specialist doctors at Sassoon Hospital.
Dr Thakur said that the Breast Disease Clinic will lead to early diagnosis of breast cancer, which will enable patients to receive modern treatment faster and on time.
Dr Mayuri Kamble, Breast Oncologist at Sassoon General Hospital, Pune, added that the needy and poor patients in rural areas will benefit from the scheme and the risk of possible cancer can be avoided in time.
