Pune: Painex Foundation, in Collaboration with International Para Swimmer Suyash Jadhav, Launches Awareness Initiative on Rare ‘Phantom Limb Pain’ Condition

Pune, 23rd March 2024: Painex Foundation, a leading name in healthcare and pain management, has partnered with renowned international para swimmer Suyash Jadhav to launch an initiative aimed at raising awareness about the Phantom Limb Pain condition. Suyash Jadhav, 30, a para-athlete who lost both his palms and wrists in an accident at the age of 11, will play an active role in this initiative, drawing from his personal experiences.

Phantom Limb Pain is a complex condition where individuals experience pain or discomfort in a limb that is no longer present. Suyash, who began his swimming journey at the age of three, has been grappling with the challenges of Phantom Limb Pain himself. His unique perspective adds a personal touch to the initiative, underscoring the need for understanding and addressing the complexities of this condition.

The announcement of this unique initiative was made during a press conference attended by esteemed figures including Mr. Suyash Jadhav, Dr. Kashinath Bangar, and Dr. Nivedita Page of Painex Foundation.

Approximately 60%–80% of amputees experience phantom limb sensations, highlighting the prevalence and significance of this often-overlooked aspect of post-amputation challenges. Through real-life case studies and narratives, the Painex Foundation aims to illustrate the diverse experiences individuals have with Phantom Limb Pain, dispelling myths, and fostering a deeper understanding of the condition.

Speaking at the press conference, Dr. Kashinath Bangar, Founder and Director of Painex Foundation, stated, “Phantom Limb Pain is an often misunderstood and under-discussed condition, impacting the lives of amputees profoundly. Through research-backed interventions such as mirror therapy, virtual reality, medication management, and neurostimulation techniques, the foundation strives to offer effective solutions tailored to the individual needs of patients.

Several advanced treatment options such as Radiofrequency ablation, epidural ports, intrathecal pumps, and spinal cord stimulators are available for Phantom Limb Pain. Painex Foundation aims to make these treatments accessible and affordable to all.
