Pune: Passengers Urged To Report Overcharging By Private Bus Operators During Diwali Season
Pimpri, 2nd November 2023: As Diwali celebrations approach, Pimpri-Chinchwad Sub Regional Transport Office (RTO) has appealed to the passengers to report private bus operators who are charging fares exceeding the prescribed rates. Complaints or evidence can be submitted via email at [email protected].
Private bus services are permitted to charge a maximum of one and a half times the fare the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) sets for the respective route. The Motor Vehicle Inspector has been instructed to take action against private buses found to be charging fares exceeding this limit, by the Motor Vehicle Act.
Deputy Regional Transport Officer of Pimpri-Chinchwad, Atul Ade, emphasised that any reports or evidence of overcharging will result in cases being filed against the bus operators under various sections of the Motor Vehicle Act. Passengers are encouraged to exercise their rights and report any instances of fare overcharging during the Diwali season.
