Pune, 9th January 2025: The Regional Passport Office (RPO) Pune achieved a significant milestone by issuing more than 4.35 lakh passports in 2024. However, officials faced challenges due to a noticeable increase in no-show appointments, particularly during the festive season and election period.

Dr. Arjun Deore, Regional Passport Officer, Pune, highlighted the issue, stating, “We expanded appointment slots at Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and Post Office PSKs to accommodate more applicants, but many failed to attend their scheduled appointments. This impacted the efficiency of our operations.”

To address this, the Pune RPO introduced a special initiative at the PSK in Pune city. “We’ve made provisions to assist over 100 applicants daily in completing partially submitted applications. This step ensures that incomplete applications don’t delay the passport issuance process,” Dr. Deore explained.

The RPO has urged applicants to follow the D2A2 framework, which simplifies the passport application process. “D2A2 stands for Documents, Details, Application, and Appointment. By adhering to this system, applicants can avoid unnecessary delays,” Dr. Deore said.

Under this framework, applicants must ensure they have essential documents, including a QR-coded birth certificate linked with Aadhaar, eAadhaar, and a Class X passing certificate for non-ECR (Emigration Check Required) status. For minors, Annexure D and the passports of both parents are mandatory.

Dr. Deore emphasized, “The passport process has been streamlined, but it’s essential for applicants to be prepared and punctual to make the system more efficient for everyone.”
