Pune, 14th June 2023: In a bid to streamline passport services and make appointments more readily available, the Ministry of External Affairs has launched a camp-mode office at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Pune. This new initiative, which came into effect on June 5, 2022, aims to reduce the waiting time for passport appointments. Additionally, all Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) under the jurisdiction of RPO Pune will remain open on Saturdays starting from May 20, 2023, until further notice. These measures are expected to provide greater convenience and accessibility to passport applicants in the region.

To avail the fresh appointment booking service, applicants are required to fill out the application form online at https://www.passportindia.gov.in/ and make the necessary payment online. Subsequently, applicants should log in again to the same portal to verify the payment status and book their appointment. Once the appointment is confirmed, applicants can download the appointment confirmation receipt from the portal.

Applicants are required to submit the following documents in original along with one self-attested photocopy for each category:

Date of Birth Proof: Valid options include PVC Aadhaar Card, complete original Aadhaar letter, e-Aadhaar issued by UIDAI, PAN Card, driving license, EPIC (Voter ID), or birth certificate, among others.

Address Proof (in self-name): Acceptable documents include PVC Aadhaar Card, complete original Aadhaar letter, e-Aadhaar issued by UIDAI, EPIC (Voter ID), rent agreement (notarized if not registered, with witness signatures), electricity bill, telephone bill (landline or post-paid mobile), water bill, photo passbook of a running bank account with the latest transactions updated (limited to scheduled public sector banks, scheduled private sector Indian banks, and regional rural banks), and more.

Non-ECR (10th standard or higher education) Proof: Applicants can provide their 10th or 12th class mark sheet or certificate from recognized boards or a graduation/post-graduation degree from recognized universities, among other acceptable documents.

It is important to note that small cut-out Aadhaar cards or smart cards printed by non-government entities will not be accepted. If the QR code on the Aadhaar letter cannot be scanned and verified, applicants will be requested to submit physical copies of e-Aadhaar or PVC Aadhaar for scanning and verification. In case of doubt, officials may request additional documents to ensure the authenticity of the applicant’s information.

Applicants must ensure that the details mentioned in all the documents, such as their complete name, date of birth, and the names of their father/mother/spouse, are consistent and identical.

While the aforementioned information covers the general requirements for most cases, it is important to visit the official passport website at https://www.passportindia.gov.in/ for more detailed information and specific document requirements. This is especially applicable to complex cases, including single parents, adopted children, lost passports, and individuals with ongoing criminal cases, among others. The website provides comprehensive guidance and assistance for a smooth passport application process.

With the implementation of the camp-mode office at RPO Pune and the extension of Saturday openings at POPSKs, passport applicants can now expect improved services and reduced waiting times, enhancing their overall experience when obtaining a passport.
