Pimpri Chinchwad, 10th December 2023: In a bold move to secure a stable financial future for the city, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has initiated a comprehensive property tax registration campaign, bringing unprecedented changes to its revenue structure. Spearheaded by Commissioner Shekhar Singh, the campaign aims to modernize tax collection methods, increase revenue, and ensure the PCMC’s financial sustainability.

“No tax hike is proposed this year. The aim is to bring unregistered properties under the tax ambit. The income from municipal property tax is likely to double, strengthening the PCMC’s financial situation”, informed the municipal commissioner.

With ongoing capital-intensive projects demanding substantial funds in the coming years, Commissioner Shekhar Singh identified the need for a permanent income source. The property tax registration campaign was conceived to generate additional revenue and bolster the PCMC’s financial standing.

Within three months of implementation, the Taxation and Tax Collection Department of PCMC has already collected Rs 640 crores in the current financial year, with expectations to reach Rs 1,000 crores. Projections suggest that the property survey and registration drive could add a staggering Rs 1,500 crores to the municipal locker in the next financial year.

The property tax registration campaign focuses on both registered and unregistered properties. The first phase emphasizes taxing unregistered properties, with no immediate increase in tax rates. The goal is to gather comprehensive information about properties through GIS mapping, providing accurate measurements, photos, and related details to property owners.

PCMC Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale-Patil stated, “This survey is crucial to increase the revenue of the Municipal Corporation. All necessary assistance has been provided, and the tax collection department is committed to making this survey a success.”

Once all properties are registered, a groundbreaking digital locker facility will be introduced, allowing property owners easy access to crucial information, such as purchase deeds, light bills, and lease documents. This initiative not only enhances the reliability and legality of properties but also makes the PCMC’s computer system more user-friendly for taxpayers.

PCMC Assistant Commissioner Nilesh Deshmukh informed, “The digital locker facility will enhance the overall quality and reliability of properties. We aim to make history by revolutionizing tax collection offices, making it more convenient for citizens.”
