Pimpri Chinchwad, 17th June 2026: Facing growing opposition from housing societies over its decision to stop collecting wet waste from large residential complexes, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is set to hold a meeting with representatives of housing societies and federations on Thursday to discuss their concerns and explore possible solutions.

The meeting, scheduled for 11 am, will be chaired by municipal commissioner Vijay Suryawanshi. Housing societies have been asked to send two representatives each, while office-bearers of various housing federations have also been invited to participate.

The development comes days after the civic body issued notices to housing societies generating more than 100 kg of wet waste per day, informing them that the municipal corporation would stop collecting their wet waste. The notices cited provisions under the Solid Waste Management Rules, which require bulk waste generators to establish in-house waste processing facilities and manage their organic waste independently.

The move triggered sharp criticism from residents and housing society representatives, who argued that setting up and operating waste processing units within residential complexes was not feasible in many cases due to space, financial and technical constraints. Several resident groups had warned of protests and accused the civic body of attempting to shift its waste management responsibilities onto citizens.

Representatives of housing societies said the upcoming meeting was convened after sustained opposition to the notices. They said residents intend to raise concerns regarding the practical difficulties involved in complying with the directive and seek clarity on the corporation’s future waste collection policy.
