Pimpri, 12th November 2023: In a proactive move to address air pollution concerns in Pimpri-Chinchwad, PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh announced on Twitter the establishment of dedicated Air Pollution Monitoring and Mitigation Squads. These squads are tasked with enforcing comprehensive guidelines aimed at curbing air pollution across the city.

Key measures include:

1) Deployment of Specialized Squads: All Assistant Commissioners in charge of the wards in PCMC have been instructed to deploy 16 specialized Air Pollution Control Squads across the 32 wards. These squads comprise experts, including deputy engineers, sanitary inspectors, beat inspectors, and MSF personnel.

2) Construction Project Guidelines: Construction projects, both private and public, are mandated to erect tin/metal sheets around their perimeters, with varying height specifications based on project size. Construction activities, including demolition, must be covered, and sprinkled with water, and adhere to strict transportation guidelines. Recycled water from the nearest PCMC sewage treatment plant is to be used for these measures.

3) Ban on Open Burning: Open burning of waste, including solid waste, is strictly prohibited. Residents are encouraged to report such incidents through the ‘Post a Waste’ option on the Smart Sarathi app. A complete ban on open burning is enforced, especially at garbage dumping grounds and potential trash-burning sites.

The commissioner emphasized that these measures align with various environmental acts and regulations, contributing to the enhancement of air quality and overall environmental well-being in PCMC limits.
