Pimpri, 8th February 2025: In a major crackdown on unauthorized structures, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) demolished 222 illegal constructions, including paper sheds, factories, godowns, and scrap shops in the Kudalwadi area of Chikhali. The encroachment spanned 42 acres of land designated for planned development and public amenities.

PCMC’s Building Permit and Unauthorized Construction Control Department led the operation, removing encroachments covering a total of 18.36 lakh square feet. The action was carried out jointly by the municipal administration and the police department under the guidance of Police Commissioner Vinay Kumar Chaube and Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, who visited the site and oversaw the operation.

The extensive operation involved four executive engineers, 16 deputy engineers, 180 Maharashtra Security Force personnel, and 600 police personnel and laborers. Heavy machinery, including 16 excavators, eight JCBs, one crane, and four cutters, was deployed to demolish the illegal structures. Additional safety measures included the presence of three fire engines and two ambulances. Officials from the electricity distribution company also assisted in the process.

According to PCMC officials, the unauthorized constructions had led to frequent fire incidents and traffic congestion in the area. Many businesses operating illegally in these structures failed to adhere to safety regulations, leading to environmental and public health risks.
Contaminated water from these businesses was being directly discharged into riverbeds, contributing to water and air pollution. Authorities also cited violations of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board norms and labor laws as key reasons for the crackdown.

Shekhar Singh, PCMC Commissioner and Administrator, stated, “This action was taken against unauthorized structures on reserved land meant for public amenities. Several fire incidents, traffic congestion, and environmental hazards were reported due to these illegal businesses. PCMC will continue such enforcement actions in the future to ensure planned urban development.”

Unauthorized structures in Kudalwadi were leading to hazardous situations like fire emergencies, and strict action was necessary.”
