Pimpri Chinchwad, 9th April 2025: With summer intensifying water demand across the city, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Water Supply Department has launched a stringent campaign to ensure equitable water distribution. The initiative comes as a response to a surge in illegal practices, such as connecting electric motors or pumps directly to municipal water lines, which has disrupted supply and reduced water pressure in elevated areas, causing inconvenience to residents.

“Water is a precious and limited resource that must be used responsibly. We appeal to citizens to comply with regulations, failing which the PCMC will take strict punitive action against violators.”
– Ajay Suryawanshi, Joint City Engineer, Water Supply Department, PCMC

Under this special drive, the department confiscated 25 electric motors from the Pimple Gurav area upto today. According to PCMC regulations (Rule No. 15), attaching electric motors or pumps to authorized water connections is strictly prohibited. Violators face tough penalties as the civic body ramps up efforts to curb such practices.

With water consumption peaking during the summer months, the PCMC has urged citizens to use water judiciously and refrain from unauthorized withdrawals that strain the system. The Water Supply Department has also appealed to residents to cooperate by avoiding wastage and reporting illegal activities.

What Citizens Should Avoid:

  • Connecting electric motors/pumps directly to PCMC water lines.
  • Installing unauthorized connections through private plumbers.
  • Wasting water on activities like washing vehicles or sprinkling yards and streets.
