Pune: PCMC Engineer Caught Red-Handed Accepting Rs 1 Lakh Bribe, ACB Registers Case

Pimpri-Chinchwad, 15th May 2025: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has caught a junior engineer from the Environmental Engineering Department of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to avoid taking action against a company accused of a gas leak. The trap was executed in front of the PCMC Administrative Building on Wednesday.
The ACB has arrested the accused, Junior Engineer Swapnil Manohar Patil (40). A 30-year-old businessman had filed a complaint with ACB Pune, alleging that Patil demanded a bribe. According to the ACB, the complainant owns a company named Shree Trading. A complaint had been submitted to the PCMC’s Environmental Engineering Department claiming that there was a gas leak and foul smell emanating from this company.
Following the complaint, Patil conducted an inspection of the Shree Trading Company premises on 24th April and completed a panchnama. He then allegedly demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant to avoid taking further action.
The complainant approached the ACB, which verified the allegations. On Wednesday, Patil accepted the bribe of Rs 1 lakh from the complainant on the road in front of the PCMC Administrative Building, where he was immediately caught red-handed by the ACB team. He was subsequently arrested.
The case is currently under investigation by ACB Police Inspector Prasad Lonare.
