Notice to Amazon, Flipkart Over Sale of Pakistani Flags in India

New Delhi, 15th May 2025: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued notices to major e-commerce platforms including Amazon India and Walmart-owned Flipkart, directing them to remove all listings of goods featuring the Pakistani flag. The action follows increased public sensitivity and heightened Indo-Pak tensions after a recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition to Amazon and Flipkart, notices have also been sent to Ubuy India, Etsy, The Flag Company, and The Flag Corporation. The companies have been asked to immediately take down all such listings and ensure compliance with national laws.
“Such Insensitivity Will Not Be Tolerated”: CCPA
The CCPA made the announcement via a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating,
“Notices have been issued to Amazon, Flipkart, UbuyIndia, Etsy, The Flag Company and The Flag Corporation for the sale of Pakistani flags and related goods. Such insensitivity will not be tolerated. E-commerce platforms are directed to remove all such content with immediate effect and comply with national laws.”
Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi also confirmed the development, stating that all e-commerce platforms must strictly comply with the directives issued.
Action Follows Pahalgam Terror Attack
This move comes in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including a Nepali national. The incident has sparked outrage across the country and led to calls for stricter action against any indirect promotion of symbols linked to Pakistan.
India Responds with Operation Sindoor
In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine terror hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). According to officials, over 100 terrorists were neutralized during the cross-border operation carried out by Indian armed forces.
