Pune: PCMC Fire Brigade Issues 15-Day Deadline for Schools to Implement Fire Safety Measures
Pimpri Chinchwad, 1st January 2025: In response to the rising incidents of fire, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Fire Brigade has instructed all schools in Pimpri Chinchwad to implement fire prevention measures. A formal letter regarding this directive will be sent to schools, granting a 15-day deadline to comply. If the measures are not implemented within the stipulated period, notices will be issued. Continued non-compliance after the notice will result in action against the respective schools.
The fire brigade plans to inspect fire safety arrangements in schools following similar checks conducted in hospitals in Pimpri Chinchwad. Schools are required to take necessary fire prevention measures and notify the PCMC if these measures have already been implemented. Letters will be sent to 673 schools across Pimpri Chinchwad, granting them a 15-day period to take necessary actions. This includes installing essential fire safety equipment and ensuring it is in proper working condition, according to Manoj Lonkar, Deputy Commissioner, in charge of the Fire Brigade.
Deputy Commissioner Lonkar further clarified that notices will be issued to schools failing to comply within the deadline, and continued negligence will lead to action under the Maharashtra Fire Prevention and Life Safety Measures Act of 2006.
Meanwhile, the PCMC fire brigade has already issued notices to 3,812 commercial establishments in the city regarding fire prevention measures. Of these, the fire brigade has inspected 482 establishments, with 172 receiving business fire safety certificates.
In light of recurring fire incidents in Pimpri Chinchwad, the fire department will verify whether schools have implemented fire prevention measures and obtained fire safety compliance certificates. This verification process will begin once the letters are sent, confirmed Deputy Commissioner Manoj Lonkar.
