Pune: PCMC Issues Demolition Notice to Hooch Case Accused’s Family in Phugewadi; Action Planned Against Alleged Illegal Structure
Pimpri Chinchwad, 3rd June 2026: Days after the illicit liquor tragedy in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad claimed 22 lives, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has initiated action against an allegedly unauthorised structure linked to one of the key accused in the case.
The civic body on Tuesday issued a demolition notice to the family of Karnail Singh Virka, who was arrested in connection with the hooch deaths. The notice, served by PCMC’s Slum Eradication and Rehabilitation Department, directs the occupants to remove the structure within 24 hours, failing which demolition action will be taken.
According to civic officials, the structure in Phugewadi was found to be unauthorised during an inspection carried out following complaints from local residents. Officials said the premises was allegedly being used for the sale of illicit liquor.
The action comes amid growing scrutiny of enforcement agencies following the hooch tragedy. Residents have alleged that illegal liquor sales had been operating in the locality for a long time despite repeated complaints to the authorities. Virka was one of the key accused arrested in the case and he was involved in sale of illicit liquor in Phugewadi area.
