Pimpri, 1st April 2023: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has announced that it will process wet and dry waste in different ways and will not pick up garbage that is not segregated. A fine ranging from Rs 500 to Rs 50,000 will be imposed if waste is not segregated. This campaign will be implemented in the MIDC area from today.

Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh gave this information at a press conference. Deputy Commissioner of Health Department Ajay Charthankar, Ravikiran Ghodke, Assistant Health Medical Officer Dr Laxman Gofane, and others were also present.

Since 2016, the central and state governments have made it mandatory to segregate waste, and 90 percent of waste is now being segregated. Societies that generate more than 100 kg of waste in the city should set up a waste processing system at their level and try to produce fertilizer, Singh explained. According to the central government’s 2016 guidelines, organizations that generate large amounts of waste must process it at their level.

Citizens are urged to dispose of wet and dry waste separately. The Health Department of the PCMC has periodically held meetings with public awareness, society owners, and entrepreneurs in MIDC to advise them to separate wet and dry waste.

Starting today, waste from those who give separate wet and dry waste in the MIDC area will be accepted in the first phase. A fine of Rs 500 to Rs 50,000 will be levied if waste is not segregated.
