Pimpri, 4th June 2025: In a major step toward inclusive urban development, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched a citywide survey under the City Livelihood Action Plan (C-LAP), receiving a strong response from citizens on its very first day. Over 350 residents participated in the survey on day one, signalling high public engagement with the initiative.

The survey, which began on Tuesday, 3 June, will continue for six days across various parts of the city. It is being conducted through field representatives deployed by PCMC’s Social Development Department. The initiative is being spearheaded under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Shekhar Singh.

The C-LAP is being developed as part of the Government of India’s Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana – National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM). It aims to assess the current state of livelihoods in the city—mapping age, gender, employment types, and socio-economic conditions of vulnerable groups such as the urban poor, slum residents, persons with disabilities (PwDs), women, and the transgender community.

According to PCMC officials, this survey will help identify employment patterns across formal and informal sectors and guide the planning of future livelihood opportunities, training programmes, self-employment schemes, and financial literacy campaigns over the next five years.

“The City Livelihood Action Plan is being designed based on the city’s resource availability, labour force dynamics, and future employment prospects. This is a crucial step toward equitable, participatory, and sustainable urban development. We urge citizens to cooperate with survey teams,” said Pradip Jambhale Patil, Additional Commissioner, PCMC.

“This plan is being developed under the DAY-NULM mission of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India. We request all residents to actively support the representatives conducting the survey in their neighbourhoods over the next few days,” added Mamta Shinde, Deputy Commissioner, Social Development Department, PCMC.

The insights gathered through this pioneering city-level survey will serve as the foundation for a five-year roadmap to strengthen livelihood support systems and welfare programs tailored to Pimpri Chinchwad’s unique socio-economic landscape.
