Pune: PCMC Launches Citywide Drive to Map, Register Bulk Waste Generators; Urge Establishments to Segregate Waste
Pimpri Chinchwad, 13th August 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has launched an awareness and registration drive for bulk waste generators as part of efforts to improve solid waste management, ensure proper segregation and promote environmental conservation in the city.
As part of the campaign, civic staff are visiting residents and various establishments to provide information about solid waste management rules. The civic administration has appealed to residents to cooperate with personnel visiting homes and establishments and provide the required information.
Housing societies, hotels, hospitals, educational institutions, offices, commercial establishments and other entities generating large quantities of waste are required to segregate waste into four categories — wet, dry, sanitary and special-care waste. The civic body has also stressed the need to process wet waste at the source and ensure its scientific management.
Bulk waste generators are required to register on the Central Pollution Control Board’s online portal at [https://swm.cpcb.gov.in/register](https://swm.cpcb.gov.in/register). PCMC staff are conducting visits to provide information about the registration process and collect details of establishments covered under the rules.
PCMC mayor Ravi Landge said waste management was not the sole responsibility of the civic body and that every citizen and establishment had a role to play.
“Everyone needs to adopt the practice of properly segregating waste and ensuring its appropriate processing. Bulk waste generators should complete the registration process and comply with the rules. Citizens should also cooperate with civic staff visiting them to collect information,” he said.
PCMC commissioner Dr Vijay Suryawanshi said managing waste at the point of generation had become essential as the quantity of waste generated in the city continued to increase.
“Bulk waste generators should prioritise waste segregation, processing and registration. The information collected through the civic body’s campaign will help strengthen the city’s solid waste management system,” he said.
Additional municipal commissioner Kuldeep Jangam said accurate information and registration of bulk waste generators were crucial for effective implementation of solid waste management rules.
“Concerned establishments should provide the necessary information to civic staff and strictly comply with rules related to waste segregation and processing of wet waste,” he said.
Deputy municipal commissioner Dr Pradeep Thengal said improper waste management could affect public health and the environment.
“Every bulk waste generator must properly segregate waste generated on its premises and ensure its scientific management. Citizens should cooperate with civic staff by providing the required information and actively participate in the cleanliness drive,” he said.
During the campaign, PCMC staff are also guiding citizens and establishments on solid waste management, waste segregation, wet waste processing and registration of bulk waste generators.
The civic administration has urged residents to verify that personnel visiting them are wearing PCMC identity cards and extend the necessary cooperation by providing accurate information for the survey.
