Pune, 31st May 2023: Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is taking proactive measures to promote waste reduction and environmental sustainability by swiftly establishing additional Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) Centers in every ward. These centres have been set up to collect and manage various non-usable items, such as clothes, toys, shoes, books, and more.

Mahesh Aadhav, Assistant Health Officer of PCMC’s D Ward, highlighted the significance of the “Meri Life, Mera Swachh Shahar” campaign. He stated, “In line with the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, we are introducing the concept of the three Rs – Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, from May 19th to June 5th, coinciding with World Environment Day. The city is grappling with a mounting waste problem that grows day by day. Many items that are commonly discarded can be effectively reduced, reused, or recycled. Therefore, we have initiated this campaign to discourage unnecessary disposal and minimize waste generation.”

Aadhav emphasized that PCMC workers are actively involved in door-to-door collection drives to raise awareness about waste management and the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle. The community response has been encouraging, leading to the establishment of RRR Centers in all 32 wards of the PCMC. These centers provide individuals with an avenue to donate items such as toys, shoes, books, clothes, and more. Additionally, the campaign aims to support financially disadvantaged individuals by partnering with various organizations that refurbish and distribute the donated items to those in need.

On behalf of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, the RRR campaign, and the PCMC, Aadhav earnestly appealed to the public to promptly donate their non-usable items at the designated RRR Centers and encourage others to do the same. So far, the PCMC has successfully collected approximately 2,754 kilograms (around 3 tonnes) of recyclable materials, including clothes, toys, electronic items, and more, effectively diverting them from landfills.
