Pune, PCMC: Over 130 tree fall incidents during heavy rains yesterday

Pune, June 4, 2020: Due to cyclone Nisarga, the rains made a strong presence in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad city yesterday. Many vehicles were damaged while water entered houses in several areas. There were nine instances of water-logging on roads or residential societies in Pune.

Due to heavy rains in Pune city, trees were uprooted in front of Kothrud Fire Station, Kasturba Hospital at Vishrantwadi, Swargate Police Line, Viman Nagar, Ramtekdi, Nal Stop, Bhusari Colony in Kothrud, Pashan Panchavati, Mundhwa Pingalevasti, Salisbury Park, Koregaon Park, Yerawada, Bibwewadi, Upper Indiranagar, Bhavani Peth, Rasta Peth, Mangalwar Peth, Aundh, Model Colony, Sinhagad Road, Dahanukar Colony, Dattawadi, Kondhwa and Bhandarkar Road. Water also seeped into homes in several low-lying settlements. This caused a lot of problems for the citizens. In PCMC tree collapse were reported from Nigdi, Wakad, Punawale, Chinchwad and Pimpri.

According to fire brigade officials of Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA), Pune city and Pimpri Chinchwad, they received about 130 calls of trees collapse on Wednesday. The number of trees falls is expected to be higher as many incidents are not reported to the fire brigade.

Pune fire brigade received 60 calls related to the uprooting of trees, while 65 calls were made to Pimpri Chinchwad fire brigade and PMRDA received five such calls from people. Officials said that many trees fell on cars, autorickshaws and other vehicles and while several trees had blocked the roads. No casualty was reported in these incidents.
