Pimpri, 6th December 2022: To combat the escalating measles infections in the twin cities (Pune- Pimpri-Chinchwad), the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has started a thorough screening programme for kids under the age of five. After 306 suspected instances and eight confirmed cases of the viral illness were discovered, it sprang into action.
Five cases have lately been documented, up from three earlier this year. One of these was a positive case from the heavily populated Kudalwadi region.
According to Dr Pavan Salvi, chief medical officer, civic officials especially conducted this screening in measles-affected areas, surveying approximately 1,32,232 homes as of Sunday. Salvi added that of the 4,90,063 people who were screened in the twin towns, 28,744 were youngsters under the age of five. 15,597 youngsters received vitamin A supplements, while 2,166 more received the first and second rounds of the MMR vaccine.
The civic organisation set up a special paediatric unit at its Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital in Pimpri to stop the spread of measles. Additionally, it set aside five beds in the Bhosari hospital and 10 beds in the Akurdi hospital for patients. Additionally, beds for isolation were set up in various medical facilities according to plans.
The MMR vaccine is given to children between the ages of nine and 16 months in hospitals free of charge. Therefore, the health officials urged parents to have their kids immunised.
