Pimpri, 26th October 2023: Under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, the meeting of the PCMC City Hawkers Committee was successfully concluded at the Divyang Madhukar Pavle Auditorium. The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Vijayakumar Khorate, Assistant Commissioner Vijaykumar Sarnaik, zonal officers, and members of the city hawker committee.

During the meeting, a significant decision was reached to address the issue of hawkers operating in various parts of the city. The committee decided to create designated hawker zones or areas in order to streamline and regulate hawking activities.

The proposed hawker zones are organized on a ward-wise basis, with the following allocation:

Regional Office A
No. Of Hawkers Zone: 04
No. of hawkers: 92

Regional Office B
No. Of Hawkers Zone: 06
No. of hawkers: 370

Regional Office C
No. Of Hawkers Zone: 08
No. of hawkers: 1052

Regional Office D
No. Of Hawkers Zone: 12
No. of hawkers: 346

Regional Office E
No. Of Hawkers Zone: 08
No. of hawkers: 257

Regional Office F
No. Of Hawkers Zone: 07
No. of hawkers: 1060

Regional Office G
No. Of Hawkers Zone: 12
No. of hawkers: 570

Regional Office H
No. Of Hawkers Zone: 06
No. of hawkers: 457

The primary objective behind this initiative is to decongest the city’s roads and squares, which have often faced traffic obstructions due to hawking activities.

This move is expected to provide relief both to the hawkers themselves, who have been known to cause traffic issues, and to the municipal authorities who frequently take action against encroachments on pavements.

In these designated hawker zones, authorized hawkers will be allotted space in coordination with the Zonal Officer and the Encroachment Department, along with the participation of various hawker associations.

Furthermore, the Municipal Corporation has fixed rents for these hawker spaces. Hawkers will have the right to use these allotted spaces upon payment of the specified rent to the Municipal Corporation. Assistant Commissioner of the Land and Estates Department, Vijayakumar Sarnaik, provided this information.
